Car:
1989
AW11 supercharged, tin top, 5 speed manual and
take your pick on the colour. Midnight Blue,
Trafalgar Blue or Dark Blue Mica!
Reg:
AW11 SC
History:
Obviously the only history we’re aware of is that since the car was
purchased in June of 2001. When bought, it would be described it as a
good honest example of a then 12 year old vehicle. It had been
resprayed, certainly not to Concors condition but not a bad job either.
It had a set of Corolla alloys that had had a long love affair with
kerbs and a set of tyres that it did not deserve. Well, we knew about
the tyres/alloys prior to buying the car.
Improvements:
-
A set
of Advanti 15 inch x 6.5 alloys shod with 205x15x50 Toyo Proxes T1S’s
up front and 225x15x50’s at the rear, and yes to my surprise they do
fit.
-
A new
clutch including machining the flywheel. I used an after market kit
(at a cost of $305) and to my surprise the old clutch plate that came
out of the car was a TRD plate and an even greater surprise was that
the replacement plate was identical, with the exception it wasn’t
stamped TRD.
-
A
visit to the panelbeaters to remove some dents from the passengers
door caused by the previous owner coming together with a beer bottle
thrown by some louts on the Auckland Southern Motorway, plus some
surface rust removal in the front boot (spilt brake fluid would be my
guess). A more recent dose of rust removal in the A pillars just prior
to the 2004 MegaRun.
-
New
cam, supercharger and aircon belts, and a new thermostat.
-
New
carpets, a repair of the stereo surround and the vinyl gearlever/fuel
tank cover. A new instrument surround was added (the old one was
badly cracked) and the vertical odds and sods bin between the seats
was installed (the car didn’t have one).
-
A set
of Fog/Spot lights up front, not for my visibility but so other road
users can see me in bad visibility (I hate the look of the main lights
when they’re up).
Modifications:
These
were mostly done by previous owners.
-
A pod
filter in the rear boot, great on sealed roads but diabolical on dusty
unsealed roads, the boot fills with dust and everything inside ends up
filthy. (I have a mod in hand to deal with this).
-
An
SW20 Turbo muffler and exhaust system with no cat. Yep, it’s noisy
but I’m getting some good power figures on the Dyno.
-
A fan
under the intercooler. This mod is one I’ve done myself and on the
Dyno I achieved a gain of 3.7 BHP and 10.1 ft/lbs Torque at the rear
wheels
