Wellington's Legendary Monthly Drives - June

Sunday the 21st June, the shortest day of the year, the third Wellington chapter run. It was meant to begin at 11:00am at Percy’s Reserve. Grant and I were expecting a turn out of approx 10 cars. Unlike usual Grant, Kar Pin and I were late arriving at the meeting location. This I will admit was partially due to me requiring a gas and air stop, and the rest sits on Grants shoulders for simply being late.

None of us were prepared for what awaited us on our arrival at Percy’s, there were already 9 MKII’s sitting in a line, without counting our 3 cars. Just when we were commenting that we would aim for 15 cars next time, 2 more MKII’s arrived to take the tally to 14 cars. It looked great, with MR2’s filling the entire car park from one end to the other.

When we left Percy’s I believed that we had organised to go to the Challenge service station for those who required gas. The result was 7 cars arrived at the service station and the remainder waited patiently at the bottom of Haywards Hill. When we finally regrouped, thanks to cellular phones (and Grant finally having his turned on) the introductions were done. It goes something like this, Dean: Red Turbo, Paul: Aqua N/A, Grant: Red Turbo, Peter: Kingfisher Blue N/A auto, Nick: Dark Blue Turbo, Tony: Red N/A, Alan: Light Blue N/A, Leon: Dark Blue Turbo, Neil: Black Turbo, Kar Pin: Gray/Blue N/A, Grant: unknown (no record), Adrian: Gray/Blue N/A, Brae: Black N/A, myself: Kingfisher Blue N/A.

Throughout the course of the day two PLONKER OF THE DAY awards were issued to members who performed particularly stupid acts. The first went to a member who had the simple role of collecting the names, contact numbers and car details of those who had turned out. This lost soul walked around the car park for 5 mins stating "OK I have 14 cars lined up and only 13 names, who is not coming forward". He was later informed that it was himself he had left off (in case you are wondering, YES it was me).

The trip over to the Southwards Car Museum, saw Alan in his light blue N/A collect the second PLONKER OF THE DAY award. For he successfully showed the general public of Paraparaumu, what an MR2 fish tailing away from an intersection looks like. Controll is not a word one would use to describe the event. Well done ALAN!!!!.

When we reached Southwards, two cars had gone their separate ways. But the line up still looked great, and was added to by the 3 cars that arrived from Palmerston North. Tony: MKI Red N/A, Jason: MKII Yellow Turbo, and Bryan: MKI White N/A AW10. This lifted the tally for the day to 17 cars, I think mister Prez, this must be a new record.

The rest of the day was pleasant with everyone getting to know each other, and a lot of fun to be had. I hope that all will turn out again, and thanks to the Palmerston members hopefully we will be seeing you this month on your ground.

Cheers from the Wellington committee!!!
