After the last couple of runs, we decided to have a quieter, more sociable run. This involved a couple of games of Ten Pin Bowling and then a casual drive around Eastborne. As per usual the weather was perfect, a portrait of a mid summer’s day, thus the T-tops had to be removed. The turn out was eight cars, the eighth being in spirit only (that was mine, for both my car key and I were there, unfortunately my car was suffering from wheel bearing trouble).
The day began with Grant in his Turbo picking me up, late as usual (glad to see nothing has changed, Grant). By the time we arrived outside the Beehive, we were very ready for a most enjoyable day. Except, no one knew the number of cars to expect. Estimates ranged from around four to forty (a little poetic license folks, ten was closer to reality). When those with cars had finished the usual photo session, this time inside Parliamentary grounds (and those without their cars watch on in silence) it was time to relocate. We left for Petone, via the city centre, of course!!!. This was badly organised and well executed with everyone arriving in two separate groups. However, I was impressed with the segmentation of cars, with the T-tops arriving in one group and the Hard tops arriving in another.
Once we were at the bowling center, the real competitive nature of those present came to the fore front. Well actually there were three clear classes of players present, 1, the too bloody good & banned from every playing with the rest of us again class (Grant & Andrew, know who they are), 2, the above average class and, 3, the (we’ll say out of kindness) average class (these people know who they are). Due to my total lack of ability shown on the day, I will not include the scores.
Next on the agenda, was a quiet drive around to Eastborne (well as quiet as possible with Tony present), in search of food. Once those who wanted to eat had, we had a very roadside discussion and discovered that air horns in an MR2 are possible (Cheers Malcolm). Now the phase “roadside discussion”, means sitting on the road and footpath between two MR2’s. No better way than that to spend a hot sunny Sunday afternoon. After soaking up the sun, we continued round to the end of the Eastborne road and then returned to Port Road. This was the end of the club run, and most departed for other pastures. Now “most” does not include Brae & CC, Tony & Jadine, Grant & a tag along (that is me). We ended up with Tony having some fun at a quiet little spot, well actually with Tony there it was not quiet and it was smoky (cheers Tony, what a ride).
Now down to club business, the PLONKER OF THE DAY award, who won it. No one event stands out well above any other of the day. The nominations stand as, Tony, for believing he was a bus, Grant, for just being far too naturally good at bowling, and Smilie (Kar Pin), for just being Smilie. If you want to know this writer’s opinion, Tony should win the award for simple giving me shit all day about my car being off the road. However, I believe we cannot award a PLONKER OF THE DAY this run, because there were no completely stupid acts performed by any member.
Well time to sign off. I hope everyone enjoyed the run and I thank them for turning up. For those of you who could, I hope to see you next time.
