Re: E51 AW 5spd speedo drive parts
Just had to do the same on my AW, luckily I had a gear that I'd bought for my first SW20, some 15 years ago
That little key is ridiculously expensive for what it is though! Readily available from TNZ at least

Had a similar issue, see my Rides thread Paul.
Mind you, I got the bits but the car is still awaiting an engine rebuild... Maybe next winter.
Hope it comes together for ya mate.

Re: E51 AW 5spd speedo drive parts
Well turns out they are not in stock. So back to the drawing board I guess! I have the gearbox shop looking for me also. At least I have an idea what the parts maybe worth.

Re: E51 AW 5spd speedo drive parts
The gear it appears is used on SV20 Camrys as well as SW20's, so could be worth a dig at wreckers. If that right angle adaptor has seized, soaking them in CRC has worked on two different occasions for me now.
The drive key should be in stock, only got mine on Saturday

Re: E51 AW 5spd speedo drive parts
So the gearbox shop fully redeemed themselves.
I was a bit disappointed that this had seized and broken less than 100ks after my gearbox reco. But I understood it was probably not a part that they would check. Mainly concentrating on the guts.
So I didn't expect them to warranty it. Turns out they got me some new parts and just gave them to me!
Only down side is the gear was 31 tooth. Now 30 tooth. So won't be accurate. But one less thing to worry about and will get me a WOF. I can find a new gear later. If it bothers me

That 1 tooth difference is enough to do damage.

I did wonder that. But the diameter is the same. Shop said it will be fine. Just not accurate?Redmist wrote:That 1 tooth difference is enough to do damage.

Been down that road. Use caution. I purchased the correct drive from k box. Last thing you want to screw is the plastic gear on the diff carrier.

Re: E51 AW 5spd speedo drive parts
Pull the circlip off (just above the drive gear in your pic) and swap the gears over - the shaft of each should be the same I reckon.
Alternately, you will find that the entire top and bottom sections of the gizmo split apart from each other and you might be able to sort it that way?
If you get really stuck, bring it over to my place one day and we can take a look. PM me if you need to do so.
