SC14 Supercharger oil Recomendation?

Post by Benckj »

This is a question coming from a SW20 follower so go easy on me.

My son is installing a SC14 onto a 2.4l diesel Hilux. He needs some oil for it and I understand it's a little hard to come by being a special product.

Can someone tell me how much is required, what is the best product and where to purchase?

Got a reply back from Toyota already;
Morning Jim,

We have the oil in stock for the superchargers which is available in 50ml containers. These take 130ml all up
The oil is $34.20 per 50ml.
Postage would be $15

Cheers,

Looking like this Kenne Bell Lucas oil might do the trick. Decent price but can't find any reference to others who used in SC12/14.

No info from others apart from a wide variety of SC oils used Stateside. Recommended purchasing the Lucas oil listed above as it seemed to be a decent price and had enough in one bottle to fill SC. No great loss if another better product is identified and swapped out later on.

I used a racing motorcycle oil after a lot of Googling, reading and talking with supercharger technicians such as Al at Al's blowers. Seems absolutely fine. Basically 30 weight castor oil was the original thing typically used in Roots superchargers (and likely the basis of the Toyota stuff if you smell it).

I went for Castrol R30. Which is in fact castor oil with additives. So probably the same stuff but cheaper and perhaps with more modern additives.

Thanks for the reply Charlie.

My boy needed to get going with an order if he wants to complete this weekend so bought the Lucas brand mentioned above. From reviews it is one of the oils used by the Ford guys which replaces the OEM- XL4 type. Not sure if there is any difference between supercharger requirements but several US AW11 owners run the XL4. So going back to maths if A=B and B=C then A=C.
