3sge crank no start

Post by fergus gillion »

Hello everyone, I have a 91 na mr2 that i recently pulled the engine out manual swapped and put back in. Now that engine is back in the car I haven't been able to get it started. It started and ran fine before pulling the motor...

here is what I know...
- the car cranks well
- the car is definitely getting fuel (spark plugs have smell like fuel when pulled, and starter fluid doesn't make a difference)
- From what I can see timing is fine (when engine is out I changed timing belt and waterpump)
- The car is definitely getting a spark.

I feel as if the issue could be the spark if anything. although it sparks maybe there is not enough spark to get it started? The spark plugs are new, and I have tried replacing the ignition coil which didn't make any difference. Distributor cap and rotor seem fine. I have gone down the path of checking how well the engine is ground and when I test it with my multimeter I get a resistance of 1.4ohms which didn't change even when I added more ground straps.

Like I said the engine ran well before it was pulled and I just cannot for the life of me figure out why It wont start. Does anyone here have any possible idea on what it could be, before I give up this two month battle and take it to mechanic.
I have tried attaching some videos which may help if the link works

Are you sure the timing is correct? Easy enough to get a couple teeth out and then no compression.

As Jim said definitely check the timing. I've had a 4AGE motor sound like that when I've replaced the belt. On the 4AGE, there are a couple of marks on each of the cam wheels and if you line up the wrong ones in the right places, you'll swear you've got it right but it just won't go.

You could also do a compression test which would show if the timing is out.
See ya
