Re: Supercharged 2GR SW20 Project - Methanol Injection Setup

Post by lasersooby »

Travis from Elate Manufacturing supplied me with an alloy fuel rail for my methanol setup on the engine end:

The rail was chopped off and we made the mounting for it and holes for the 2 x 2000cc Bosch Injectors (methanol compatible). The setup up is sitting proud as you can see by the pictures. The spacer block will be turned 180degrees so that the system is actually hidden from view. We have a bit of interference from the inlet and outlet AN fittings for the w2a intercooler plate and will make mods to the fittings first before we turn this around for the final position. Overall, pretty stoked as to how this has come up:

I'm just a little confused on the TB injectors. Are these being used for and water injection set-up or something else? You may have mentioned this previously but it's been that long since you started this build I can't quite recall.

Hi Jim,

Yep has been a very long build mate and still going. Started this around January 2016 :) :)

The original plan was to cool the air coming into the supercharger then Travis from Elate came to the party by developing the plate intercooler for me. We now have that in place between the supercharger and the lower intake manifold (will be running Evans coolant through my cooling system).

We switched the idea from cooling the air to running methanol as added fuel into the system to see how much more power we can generate.

This option developed after the plate intercooler became available.

Whether it works or not, we will see how it goes when we get the car on the dyno :)

OK, think I understand. Not real sure how well the Bosch injectors atomize the fluid (methanol) as compared to a proper WI nozzle. Difference being is that thew WI nozzles are supplied by a 200psi pump allowing air charge to be cooled and mix completed before it enters TB.

There is some good info in the US forums on WI for those who injected pre and post turbo. I don't recall anyone doing this with a SC so results will be interesting. The methanol is highly corrosive especially if you injecting pure. Hope it doesn't cause any grief with the internals. May need a non-return valve or solenoid in supply line to stop the methanol from syphoning through under vacuum.

Thanks mate, understood and yeah we are going to take all the precautions that is needed to safeguard everything. It will be interesting when we get to this stage.

We have looked at a Garrett GTX35 .82 to go on as well (I just have to see if I can without the wife killing me in the process), this will possibly come later as I just want the car on the road and running before any further tinkering if I think it needs it.
