I technically got my wish, it's mounted and in the car, and car is rolling
Thanks so much to Phil and Cjay for the help. 9am to 6pm and we got it all done. There was more cleaning to be done... my bad... but that is a big step done and dusted!

Re: ClanFevers's APEXED 1992 GT-Limited (Continued)
It was a good productive day. I forgot to get Olaf to order the oil pump seals so we didn't put the cam belt. Note to self (that I already knew) oil pump o rings and shaft seals don't come in rebuild kits. The oil pump main housing to the block does and it's metal instead of paper like the one the engine left the factory with. Also noted the cam angle sensor rubber o ring/gasket thingy doesn't come in the kit nor as a separate part, it's part of the sensor part number itself however the seal in this case was still suitable for reuse after cleaning out all the muck from around the sensor in the head.
Day started off with rain, which wasn't great as you can see Olaf's garage is full of cars. So I set out all the parts on the floor to check what I had and document it. Clearly I missed the oil pump stuff at that point. Silly me.
It started to clear up so we pulled the motor out of the garage to start pulling off the crank pulley to clean up behind the cam covers. Was a bit dirty there but no oil leaks which was good. New seals went in after giving the crank position sensor a good clean up. Olaf was given the job of cleaning most things.
Once we got the valve cover off to clean up we replaced more seals along with the fuel rail and injector seals.
Cleaned a few more items as this was a rather dirty engine as the top of the engine was a bit leaky.
After that we took the engine off the stand and removed the old flywheel. We used a rattle gun with the worlds smallest air compressor. Took at least one full refill to do each of the 8 bolts. 1 needed a second refill to get it off. This was entertaining!
Once we had all that sorted we grabbed the fresh flywheel from the GEN2 and put that on with some locktite to seal the threads. Then went on the clutch with the centring tool Cjay provided. This proved to be a great idea for the next step. We grabbed the gearbox from the garage and put that on. It went on super easy, 2 tries and boom. Slipped in place. Clutch centring tools are your friend.
Bolted it all together and placed in on my pallet trolley to make it far easier to move under the car.
Lifted the car from the side with the engine crane fixed to the engine left and right engine mount bolts to get it high enough to clear the intake manifold and wheel it under. I do this to save the rear bumper from getting destroyed. Put the car down on the axle stands on the rear jack points.
Then lift the engine and gearbox up but first installing the rubber sections of the left and right engine mounts. Lift the engine up to the right side mount studs and have it locate then lift up the gearbox to meet the left side mount and bolt it in from underneath.
Put the subframe back on, suspension back together and wheels on. Push it inside the garage and done!

Re: ClanFevers's APEXED 1992 GT-Limited (Continued)
And it starts! The wiring is one of the big jobs to complete for this project. Everything else is mostly there.
GEN2 3SGTE harness from an 89-91 JDM SW20. It's not the same as the 92-93 harness. But it's also been modified to fit a 92 3SGE body from the original turbo swap. Nothing too much different but it will work fine.
GEN4 harness with most of the tape removed ready to join into the GEN2 harness. Plenty of work to do but in the end it should look like this.
One I prepared earlier for a 1996 G-Limited with a GEN3 3SGE.

Yeah it's been a big learning experience with help from many people not just in NZ. Being given the opportunity to do these is awesome. That way I know what to do for my own swap when I get to that point.

Re: ClanFevers's APEXED 1992 GT-Limited (Continued)
Started stripping down the 89-91 JDM 3SGTE harness. My method is to document all the pins, match them up to what needs to remain to join to the GEN4 3SGTE, what needs to remain to make the MR2 harness control the what the Caldina harness does not and what to remove that only relates to the GEN2 ECU.
Mark everything with colour coded cable ties. Olafs favourite pass time!
Small pile of unused wires and plugs starting to get larger.
Stripping it down further.
Join the others!
And done. All the unused parts together.
Final strip down complete.
Then next step was to repair the horrendous wiring I had done in 2014 to make the turbo harness work in the NA body, adapt the electronic Speedo from the NA into the turbo engine harness we did move the idle valve but that's been binned now. GEN4 has its own. I did this while the harness was in the car. Not an easy thing to do but my skills, knowledge and lack of decent tools and wiring parts made it less than ideal. It still worked.
It did have heat shrink and/tape over it but I removed it to check what needed to be done.
Three levels of completeness. OG wiring from 2014, finished crimped and heat shrink covered and a crimp fitting.
Much better result. It will never come undone or break. Same method as OEM.
Next step is to strip down a small amount of the GEN4 harness to remove some unused parts, remove the fire wall grommet and glued in spacer in between the wires and start joining items into the harness.

Well that was an easy job - only took 7 photo's from start to finish!! And don't worry - I've still got solder burn scars on my legs from when I did my ST to BT wiring swap in the AW!!
See ya

I could have done it in 3 but you know how things get out of hand quickly. And solder, no thanks, crimping all the way!
