Re: tw2's 4th mr2
Finally got the car running. Shifted like garbage though. Would kick out of 3rd with fast shifts. I think the roller skate bearings where too tightly packed in between washers on the shift lever. I had teflon lined spherical bearings on my old cables so just swapped the whole set of cables over, easier than trying to pry / press them out.

Now shifting perfectly. I removed the vinyl, decided to leave the roof. Will remove the black from the front bumper when it comes time to paint, I can tell it is going to be totally rubbish underneath it.

Re: tw2's 4th mr2
Next things on the list are to get the front knuckles somehow sorted for ABS. I finished identifying every ABS wire under the dash I will need. Next is to pull out my old car's frunk harness and use it to extend the wiring to the pump and also from pump to fuse box. Hopefully I can just swap the approprate fuse and relay into it rather than replacing the entire box.
Then alignment +/- putting the new wheels on and painging the entire front, mirrors, door handles and spoiler. Apparenly this car was factory painted in two shades of silver. It is subtle but the door handles, spoiler and mirrors are slightly lighter than the other panels. The paint certainly looks 30 years old.

Good to see it running!
On the paint colour front, these parts are not metal so fade at a different rate. The red on my car did the same thing.

Re: tw2's 4th mr2
Thanks. I did consider fade but the bumpers, side intakes and plastic roof piece are all fine. Regardless the paint isn't very good so I will have them try and match it as best they can to the rest of the car. Hopefully it will be hard to tell after that
Also did some test fitting on the spare engine but that project is a long way off. I will need an oil filter relocation kit which I was hoping to avoid. Will need to get the turbo lower brace ground down a bit. Otherwise the rest looks like it should work fine.

That's a tight fit!
Lots of differences with the 3SGE to really complicate stuff.

Re: tw2's 4th mr2
Steering wheel is straight now!
Unfortunately the alternator died at the same time, it never ends. I wanted a rebuilt denso one but doesn't look like it is going to happen. Might have to chance a new aftermarket one. Decided to take the front knuckles out to finish the ABS conversion since I can't see a new alternator arriving any time soon.

Re: tw2's 4th mr2
Nice to see someone on this forum doing a little work on their car. I was starting to get rather lonely.
Car is looking sweet & I like the black roof design. Is it paint or wrap?

Re: tw2's 4th mr2
Thanks Mike.
Next up is front and rear strut braces, rebuild calipers, surface rotors, poly bushes and that should be it until turbo time.
Wrap. Previous owner had it done along with a million stickers. According to a local member he thought it looked like a professional job. Not something I would ever do but I will keep it like this. I removed most of the stickers and next will be to get some panels sprayed.

Re: tw2's 4th mr2
New wheels look great! Nice and subtle, not too aggressive and go with the curves of the SW.
I might be about 17 weeks behind on my updates. But yes, this place is rather dead.
