I picked up a very tidy 92 SW last week. It is in very tidy condition. Had spent a fair amount of time unregd. But goes well, due to unknown service history I will be giving it the once over to make sure everything is done.
At least that way, I know it is current.

And before anyone states the obvious, yes I know the rear center panel is wrong for a rev2. The previous owner had to replace the trunk lock and got the wrong length lock, and broke the mounting tabs off original, so he put in a rev1 center plate

Well the next update isnt entertainment. But i did manage to get rear speakers in. So i know have two rears and one front working lol.
Instead its a simple service update.
I changed the engine oil and filter yesterday - Oil was black as but otherwise no probs.
Also done a coolant change - Problem kinda.
Coolant was rusty coloured, so i knew it needed doing.
What i done was undone the bungs in the main line under the car, and Behold... Nothing came out. Bolts were Bone Dry. WTF
Removed the bung at the bottom of radiator and had water come out. I put the bungs back in the pipes and my mate and I proceeded to flood the system with fresh water. Forcing everything out the bung in radiator. OMG the crap coming out was insane. I also started the car up while it was flushing, that got more crap out.
When we were both happy that nothing else was coming out, we turned off the water and let as much of the water to drain out as we could.
After which we started loading it up with coolant. I put the clear hoses on the radiator bleeder and the heater core bleeder and waited for the green coolant to climb. It took a while, but we got it done. Hopefully no bubbles left, but i will be keeping an eye open for fluid loss etc.
Took it for a nice drive, comfy as hell. Coolant temp got to halfway, and stayed there. Got home and checked for any signs of leakage - Nothing leaking.
Still will keep an eye open over the next few days to make sure.

Thats a worry when you have that much debris in coolant flush. You might want to repeat the exercise in a year or so after doing a few km's. I'd do same for engine oil as the mechanics of car hasn't been looked after very well.

I noticed once it got to temp it had a leak around the waterpump area. Cant see exactly where.
It doesnt leak while cold, which I guess is kinda reasuring?
But in any case i still need to fix where ever it is leaking. Need to do a pressure test and decide on options from there.
I know in the past on one of my previous cars, the waterpump started leaking and it dropped the entire contents over night.
But this is only losing approx 30-40ml on each trip to work.
Any ideas??

At a guess its probably the WP shaft seal. Best to get yourself a black light and have a look around when car is warmed up and driping. Might need to wiggle the top cam shaft cover off first.

Well it has been a while from an update.
I ended up getting Toyota to do a WP replacement along with everything else on that side of the engine that should be done at that time. The WP was leaking, so that answered that question. They had also found that someone (not me) had attempted to do some work in that area, as there were a few bolts that were either rounded or cross threaded.
And a couple of days after getting it back from Toyota, it started leaking again....
So into Toyota again, and after a couple of days "testing" they informed me that there is a leak from around the oil cooler. That brings me up to date, I am trying to get some time to check the plumbing for the cooler and repair/replace what I need to. Let's just say I have been getting frustrated with this car. But once it stops leaking I can get back into driving it, which I really enjoy.

Thanks for the update even though problems are still unresolved. The oil cooler is quite a simple device with a couple hoses connecting and internal O ring that is known to leak. Bit of a pain to work on given its position but can be done without pulling the engine apart. Far more complicated if it was a turbo due to exhaust and other bits in the way.

Yikes. Toyota service dept strikes again. Big bills and disappointment seems to be common.
