Likewise.

Hey Mike is the 3km circuit the U shaped one?

Toyota, Higgins and Dunlop corners, with Castrol Esses thrown in for added fun...

That the one?

With banked corners too eh? Sounds wicked.

Need good brakes I reckon cos that's two serious looking straights.

I see the lap record for a saloon car is about a minute five. Do the 2k Cup fellas do Manfield? If so, I wonder how they go on it? :?:

Judging by Google Maps each straight is about 350 to 400 metres long? So we might just squeeze in a quarter mile? With a corner and a gravel trap at the end.
Sounds like fun, I'm in...!

OK so this is real weird, this topic says it's locked and that I can't post to it... WT...???

Don't let it put you off posting a reply folks. That said, if you can't post on this thread, please PM mknz so he can take a look. I won't just go jumping in there in case there's a reason it's like that and he's busy doing some under the hood webmastery stuff...

I actually thought I locked the Motorsport section ages ago when the Club decided to try merging it back into a single Events section. Something odd here if I think about it but hey... :?

Michael will sort it out. 8)

Anyway... threw together a route from AKL to Manfield aka Fielding just now. A nice wee blend of interesting twisties and cruisy stuff, plenty of gas stations with stints of either 1 or 2 hours at a time depending what suits. And lots of great scenery. Total distance approx 500km and travel time approx 6 hours.

I'm intending to travel down on Friday 22nd November, probably leave BP Drury about 8am. I don't want to get stuck in Auckland traffic trying to get from my native Westieland to Drury, so I'll hit the Nor-Western about 7am.

Hanyooo, if you are interested in tagging along and heading down on the Friday (anyone) you're most welcome.

There are a ton of awesome back-roads between Drury and Mangakino then more epic scenery down the west side of the lake to Turangi (brilliant fun too) and I'll skirt the mountains of National Park on the western side where the traffic is light and the scenery again is epic. In fact I might even hit the summit for lunch. That would be mint. And there'd be plenty of time for it.

Yeah. And I'll go home the other way via Taumarunui and Te Kuiti. Less back roads and more cruisy but still lots of twisties and a ton of great scenery. There's Raurimu Rex which is a total must for a shot, and an old barn I need to remember to get a pic of just north of Taumarunui.

Anyway like I said if anyone wants to tag along heading down from Auckland on the Friday, or on the way back on the Sunday, you're most welcome. :)

And seeing as I'm an old bastard now with snow white hair and skin that's turning blotchy I'll take the Monday off so I can blob out and recover. Zzzzzzz.......

I can't wait for this event, it's going to be truly EPIC FUN. Well done Mike & co for organising it...! :D

There you go fellas. 1 minute 25 is the lap time to beat. Don't let a dirty smelly Honda get the better of your MR2.

Oh yeah - while swooping down to ground level on Google Maps to check the lovely back roads are sealed and not gravel, I spotted this fella. Darrell seems to have stopped for a rest near Stormy Point lookout (down below at the river) and taken a selfie with the Google Maps 360 degree car camera. So there you go, I found your "Easter Egg" Darrell. Whoever you are... Keep up the good work mate. It's VERY useful for scouting out a route...!

Yep there we go, something must have gone awry with permissions during the recent migration to a new server. No biggie.

 Michael, you might want to move this thread into Events and ensure the old MR2 Motorsports section is locked
so well-meaning folk like Mike can't start threads in there in future?

Cheers mate.

Nope. harder, not easier.

We decided to merge all "event" type stuff back into a single Events section because things posted in Motorsports or "Non-MR2OCNZ Events" tended to get missed.

We wanted to promote things like track time or caffeine and classics or burger meets as Events, just as much as a run. :)

Would be good to meet you Jim. 8)

On another note, I will move this topic into Events where it ought to be as I have a feeling the forum permissions are muddled (perhaps a group ID has become attached to a group other than what it was, or some such, Michael?) It's looking very much like only ACs and Admins can post here so I'll move it to the Events forum so we can be sure that anyone can post to this thread.

Otherwise this might become a very exclusive track day...

Good idea Charlie as I already have squillions of PMS confirming attendance and better here for questions anyway.

Should we start to take deposits into the bank acc Mike?
I don't want money yet Olaf. This is expressions of interest . We are still juggling the money and just finished our Bronze ,silver , and gold sponsors packages.

Once I have the magic number of cars I need and see what the sponsors will give then we will take money. It is likely to be August to take money but thanks anyway.

Best way to express interest is to give (even part) payment as a deposit - there is definite interest, however you're always going to get people changing plans or un-committing in the weeks leading up to it. August is a good amount of time from November away to get our t's dotted and i's crossed

You have to be committed to continue accelerating through the first part of the corner, then get on the brakes and power back through the rest of it. I most definitely have a bad line through it
