Auckland run 17 June 2012 Gizmo goodbye
The MR2 that founded this Club is leaving home.
Having spent nearly two decades pampered, nurtured, fussed over and (when not playing hard) kipping in a warm dry cozy garage here in west Auckland, she's going to a new home way down south - all the way to Christchurch actually. Which is a good thing as it's real dry down there and thus good for an AW's health. Which may explain why there seem to be a high proportion of AW's down that way eh... http://mr2.org.nz/phpbb3/viewtopic.php? ... 1&start=23" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Anyway, Ade (Adrienne Mora the founder of this Club) is finally saying farewell to Gizmo, her precious and cherished companion of so many years. They shared many a mile (ok that's "many a 1 point 6 kilometre" to you youngsters) and helped bring grins to the faces of thousands of MR2 owners by way of getting this Club going.
So let's have a wee bit of a run and a good hearty dose of kai to say "bye bye" to Gizmo. It's a perfect excuse to celebrate the good times an MR2 can bring to so many of us.
BYO sausages / steaks / lamb chops and liquids for a BBQ. (if it turns a bit damp there's a huge garage to huddle in).
And if you're any good with a camera, bring it to get a few choice pics.
Might be a classic Ferrari there too, you just never know. It's real interesting to examine it and see the similarity of design as compared to an AW too...
If you're in Auckland, set aside the day.
Meeting at DSE Westgate, 10am Sunday 17th June.
I'm not going to say where we're going on this run but suffice to say it's SWEET...! Bring a full tank of gas and enjoy some of the best twisties this side of anywhere.

I'll try and make it, but not sure if I'll have the 2 or the 4!

Pretty sure it's less than 200km, but remember a lot of it will be in 2nd or 3rd gear...pieter992 wrote:I should be in, how many km's is the Run? Katie needs to put money aside for it
If your 2 isn't on the road feel free to rock along in whatever rolls. We'll pause periodically to regroup so no mad pressure to keep up.
Though if you do want to push your 2 to that place where you really get a bead on what it can do, there will be opportunity for that too, rest assured.
Trust me this is one nice drive - one of the most classic runs done by the Club actually, enjoyed for aeons. Great scenery and some amazing twisties.
It'll be a great day.

OK having discussed with Ade, she'll lead us around a slightly smaller but still very enjoyable circuit.
Only about 75km so won't cost you a lot of gas either. So if you're on a budget but want some fun, rock up!
According to this weather site, Sunday's looking good!

Saw an email that Ade sent to her friends yesterday, inviting them to bring their "interesting" cars... So there may well be more than one Ferrari on the day. Could be a very interesting run...

Re: Auckland run 17 June 2012
Well that was a run with a difference. We met at Westgate to find we had 5 AW11, 8 SW, 2 ZZW, 2 Ferrari, 1 Porsche, 1 Audi and 1 Lotus. Nice.
Ade led the run in Gizmo, the AW11 Supercharger that inspired her to start this club back in 1994. We had a minor whoops where one end of the train became unhooked from the other, no thanks at all to a horse float... but we enjoyed some excellent roads, good company and a hearty feed at the end of it all back at Steve and Ade's place in Kumeu. Ivan a.k.a. motorheadSW20 - nice job cheffing mate!
A few of us enjoyed a ride in either the Fraser or the Ferrari during or after the run too - I must say the Ferrari is very very planted, and amazingly smooth and comfortable. Rock hard suspension like my T-top AW but (unlike the AW) it seems to also magically soak up all the bumps. Very nice indeed.
In my estimation Pieter got the best deal of all of us, having done most of the run in a Ferrari, then gone for a blat in the Fraser as well (AW11 SC powered that is).
And don't get me wrong - this is the MR2 Club and we're here for the sake of enjoying our MR2's. But if you get to enjoy a blat in a Ferrari (undoubtedly a marque inspiring our MR2 mid engine beasties' design) or a Fraser (AW11SC MR2 powered) chances are you're feasting on those very things that make us MR2 enthusiasts. Mmm mmmmm.....
Here's a few pics to convey the gist of things. Click on an image to enlarge. Video will follow once I get it edited and rendered.
I hope I got everyone's cars listed correctly...?
Post your pics too folks!
A hearty thanks to Ade and Steve for a great day out, and an equally big "cheers" to all who came and helped make it a great day. Nice.
Video to come...
